Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
Originally the Banaras Engineering College, converted to IIT status in 2012, offering engineering and technology programs within Banaras Hindu University.
IIT (BHU) Varanasi traces its history to engineering colleges founded within Banaras Hindu University starting in 1919, and became an IIT in 2012. It is still located inside the large BHU campus in Varanasi, so students share an unusually broad university environment. It has particular strengths in mining, metallurgy, ceramic and pharmaceutical engineering alongside mainstream branches. Kashiyatra (cultural) and Technex (technical) are its main festivals.
