IIT Bombay, set up in 1958 as the second IIT, sits on a lakeside campus in Powai, Mumbai. It is best known for its engineering programs, especially computer science, electrical and aerospace engineering, and has strong research centres and an active startup and entrepreneurship ecosystem. Management is offered through the Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management. Campus life is fully residential and hostel-centred, and the institute hosts two of the country's largest student festivals: Mood Indigo (cultural) and Techfest (technical).
