A public technical university with strong ties to the metallurgical and mining industries in eastern India.
NIT Rourkela was established in 1961 as a Regional Engineering College in Odisha and became an NIT in 2002. It has a large, green residential campus and offers engineering, sciences, humanities and management, with a sizeable research and doctoral program. Close links with the nearby Rourkela Steel Plant have historically shaped its metallurgy and mining departments. Innovision (technical) and NITRutsav (cultural) are its major festivals.
